I still have lots from our trip to Ohio, but also, drove out to beautiful St. Joseph Michigan for their antique show. I can’t think of a more beautiful place to treasure hunt (I will put a photo in my listings where I have room) and I always find the best items for you! Lots of new stuff this week!
Please know that shipping is NOT correct as far as ebay’s estimates – items are still arriving late – and it’s not consistent – it depends upon where you live, I’ve found.
AND…I might as well say it from the get-go. ALL of my items this week are DIRTY, DUSTY, COBWEBBY AND DEBRISY, all barn or attic lived for a long time, and ALL will need a good cleaning. I do not clean or mess with as found patina in any way.
Also please note that I’ve made some changes to my payment and combined shipment policies, which you can see highlighted in my detail below. With recent increases in USPS mail charges, it might not always be less expensive to combine, especially if a box is over 12.”
And, the funny thing is, I had just decided to buy this one, just because of it being from the Chicago Natural History Museum - what is now call the Field Museum of Natural History - just because of the HISTORY of it - and then, I turned it over to see the subject! What can I say?? I do my best to find you the unique and unusual, and I think I have both with this one! What I have is a mailed/posted post card that was mailed from Bartlett Illinois in 1956. It's adressed to a Mrs. Wm Hoffman who lived in Montery Park Californa, and the typed message on the postcard, from Denny, reads, "Dear Gram, I hope this picture does not scare you. It is one of the things i saw when our class went to the Natural History Museum Monday. I hope you have a nice time while your(sic) there. I miss you. Love Denny." The back of the card reads, "Chicago Natural History Museum, formerly Field Museum of Natural History, Shrunken Human Heads Hall 9, Heads of slain enemies, shrunken to the side of a man's fist by the Jivaro Indians of eastern Ecuador and Peru, were kept as trophies...." it goes on, but you get the drift. On the front is the black and white photograph image of two of those shunken heads from the museum. It is a standard post card in size, measuring 5 1/2" X 3 1/2" and only weighing an ounce or so, and it's in excellent solid and sturdy condition structurally with no rips or holes or dings or structural issues. There's rubby wear to the corners, and you can see that it's darkened some with age too, I'm surre. Under the California in tghe address on the back is %(which I assume is supposed to be Care of?) Chas. Allison, and at the very bottom, you can see the same thing hand written in pencil, but then also scribbled out almost in blue ink pen. You can see some of the ink pen on a couple of words scribbled out in the typed message, too - all of which appear to be original. If you look at photo 5 of the close up of the hair, you can see some teeenie pinpoint sized white spots - they are not spots or scrapes, what they appear to be are push out dings from the typewriter on the other side when the original message was typed. That's what I think, at least, as they are slightly palpable, so not part of the picture, but yes, part of the story! Also, as the bottom of the front appears to be a very light opaque caramel colored mark/water mark. It's light, so it's hard to notice and it's at the bottom front only - I see it nowhere else. There's a vertical line running down the center that is original in the photo print - It's not a crease, didn't want you thinking that if you can see it - no creases or bends except the teenie rubby wear to some corners. That's the most of it with this oldee - I love the photos, love the message at the back - it deserves to be framed! Now, there's history with this museum, too, which I have been to many many times, and indeed saw these heads myself. It actually was formed with artifacts shown at the 1893 Columbian Exposition and it's benefactor was Marshall Field. Interestingly enough, it was named originally the Field Museum of Natural History. From 1943 until 1966, the museum's name was changed and during this time, it was known at the Chicago Natural History Museum, the time period of this card, before returning to the original name, Field Museum of Natural History. Anyhoo, just a little Chicago history. I bet you don't have one!

Please know that some items cannot be combined, though, do to size, weight, or safety of the items.  Many items that are set to ship in USPS FLAT RATE boxes; I cannot combine due to size restrictions. Please look at the shipping alternatives in the listings.  I only mail USPS and pack in the best manner that we feel safe – I cannot change shipment methods after the close of an auction (i.e. rolling an old map to save money when I have it set to ship flat), especially if I feel the requested method is not safe.  Again, I only ship USPS and charge actual cost to ship only. I ship within one business day of receipt of your payment, unless there’s a holiday that closes the post office, or I will notify you otherwise.
As I shop for treasures on the weekends, I most often do not ship on Saturday. Most items closing and paid for on Friday will be shipped on Monday.
Many of my items come from local rural estate sales and auctions.  They are coming right from the barn or attic to you - dust, dirt, cobwebs and all!  I do not clean and polish before I sell – they are in the condition found, as you see in my photos, and I leave the patina exactly as it was when I bought the item
.  I do my best to photo and describe all thoroughly.
With postage rates increasing regularly, I am shipping more and more items Parcel Select. Parcel Select travels by land or rail and the packages do not leave the regional post office until they fill up a bin going in the same direction (so the estimated delivery is truly only an estimate – not exact).  The post office estimates 5-7 days, but it can go up higher, sometimes even 3-4 weeks in peak mailing times like the holidays.  I always provide a tracking number, so you can see where your item is on any day.
Sales tax will be added for states as required.
